A WOMAN is fighting to keep her pet dog alive.

Kathryn Edge is contesting a police application that her Staffordshire Bull Terrier Blade should be destroyed.

This follows an incident in which a police officer was bitten.

Ms Edge, 47, of Holmefield Road, Blackpool, will call an expert witness who will argue that Blade need not die but be the subject of a court order to control its behaviour.

The case was adjourned until July 18 by Blackpool Magistrates.
