DRIVERS were left facing rush hour chaos on the motorway after a car towing a trailer overturned.
Police said a woman lost control of the Nissan around 4pm yesterday on the M55 between junction 3 at Kirkham and junction 1 at Fulwood.
The crash caused huge delays for motorists as traffic began to form a tailback once police closed a section of the busy route.
Officers who had been called to the scene were forced to shut down one lane and enforce a speed limit of 30mph after a load of gravel from the trailer spilt on to the carriageway.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “The driver got out of the car and is fine.”
The road was cleared of gravel and vehicle debris by 6pm with all lanes of the motorway re-opened to traffic.
