Blackpool’s Armed Forces Week kicked off with a bang as some of the country’s strongest men showed off their muscles.
Contestants travelled from all over the country to take part in the Blackpool’s Strongest Man competition in St John’s Square on Saturday.
Blackpool Business Improvement District (BID) brought in Lancashire-based armed forces charity Our Local Heroes to launch the contest, which is now set to become an annual event.
Competitors tested their strength in a series of challenges, including the truck pull and the car deadlift.
Eileen Ormand, of Blackpool BID, said: “It was a first for us but it was a really big success.
“What a remarkable bunch of men they are – they are massive. It was an amazing event.”
Greg Dunnings, who lives in Lancashire, organised the event to support Armed Forces Week.
A veteran himself, he almost lost a leg in an explosion while serving in Afghanistan.
