FYLDE skating king Dan Whiston says it’s n-ice to be back on the rink – this time with actress and dancer Jennifer Ellison.
Dan, from Poulton, has been paired with former Brookside star Jennifer in the new series of hit ITV1 show Dancing on Ice.
This year’s show promises a few changes – including the replacement of acid-tongued Aussie judge Jason Gardiner with camp choreographer Louie Spence. Former Olympic champion Katarina Witt also joins the panel.
Dan, 34, told The Gazette: “I’m really excited about this new series of Dancing on Ice.
“There’s only myself and Matt Evers who have been involved right from the start and it’s fantastic to think it’s now been going seven years.”
Dan has spent the last few weeks training with and getting to know his new partner, who just missed performing at Blackpool Opera House in Calendar Girls, in September, after an accident with a falling piano.
He said: “We get on great – we’re both Northern and have the same sense of humour.
“She’s doing really well and enjoying it. She’s one of those people who just put their best into everything.
Dan – who has twice been crowned Dancing on Ice champion – says this series should provide plenty of entertainment for viewers.
“It’s a great group of people. I’ve been watching the other celebrities in training and I don’t think there’s one person who’s way ahead of anyone else.
“Louie Spence will be a good judge – he will bring the comedy element, but he’s not one to mince his words, so I think he will say what he thinks.
“And Katriana Witt is a legend in the skating world, so she will really add to the show.”
Bookies are already putting Dan and Jennifer at 4-1 to win this series, but Dan remains modest.
“It’s nice to know, but it’s early days yet. We’re just working really hard in training and will be thrilled if we stay in week by week.”
