Opposition to plan for 165 homes grows

Gladman Developments of Cheshire has submitted a planning application to Wyre Council to build on farm land at Hambleton.

But villagers say the huge development will cause chaos on the village lanes, increase flooding in the area and mean that their children may not get a place at the already-full village school as children from the new development would have priority as it is right next to the proposed site.

More than 30 people turned up to the latest meeting of Hambleton Parish Council to make their opposition known. The councillors agreed and have written to Wyre Council to say the development would be ‘totally unsuitable’, urging them to reject it.

Parish council vice chairman Roger Cameron said: “Everyone I know is totally opposed to this plan.

“Gladman in their submission have made errors, suggesting there is a Post Office and police station near their site, and a bank, while there has not been for years.

“Hambleton suffers from flooding and building on another field will just make that worse. Virtually every road in the village has flooded this year.

“The roads are too small to cope with what could be 300 more cars it would cause chaos. Arthurs Lane is very busy already at peak times. With more traffic it would be difficult to get emergency vehicles along there. There are no jobs for these new families and therefore the traffic build up at Shard Bridge would be impossible.”

Villager Andy Meredith said: “We had 10 members from our action group at the meeting. We are delighted the parish council support the villagers’ views.

“We have seen 394 letters of objection go in to Wyre Council objecting to this and we are encouraging more. If people want to get involved they can see our website at www.hambletonaction.co.uk.”

The Gazette contacted Gladman Developments for a comment but no-one was available today.
