We’ll be through all this soon writes Andy Mitchell

‘And so winter became spring, and with it came the dawning of the age of compliance.”

It sounds like a quotable quote from days gone by, doesn’t it? It isn’t... I just made it up in the hope that one day some literary giant writing in The Gazette 50 years from now might pluck it out of the archives and quote me!

Anyway enough about me, how are you doing? Still exploring the house trying to find new places to hide? Are you working from home and trying desperately to still be the grown up you’ve convinced yourself you are, balancing pseudo important grown up things like conference calls with the need to scrape food off the walls?

One thing is for sure since we last chatted a week ago, the law is now the law and the police quite rightly have the powers to enforce the new world order.

Just like over a week ago (which seems like a month) businesses didn’t know whether to close or not, because there had been no guarantees wages would be paid. Uncertainty added fuel to the rumour mill over what was and wasn’t allowed, and that just wasn’t helping.

Those who thought themselves invincible had stoked themselves up via social media into believing a curfew would never be imposed They were wrong.

By the weekend, even the most hardened Facebook campaigner had come to realise that the rules are just that and not open to much interpretation outside of common sense.

Getting a routine going has been key to sanity. I’m working from home at the moment, but that also means being able to close the door on “the office” and have some downtime. Sort a time to go for a walk and look forward to it. Maybe chat to loved ones online...set a time and aim towards it.

None of us know for sure when all this will be over, but what IS apparent is that social distancing does appear to be working, so if that’s all we have to hang our hat on for now, let’s take notice and get on with it.

Stay safe... we’ll be through it soon!
