Flag theft workman was caught in the act
Carl Quigley was wearing a high visibility jacket and a hard hat when he was spotted loading the stone slabs into his white Transit van as police arrived.
Quigley, 36, of Ingleholm, Ince Hall, Ince, Wigan, pleaded guilty to theft.

Hide AdHe was sentenced to do 100 hours unpaid work for the community, put on six months supervision and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Pamela Baldwin sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police were alerted that a man was taking paving stones from an address on Ribble Road, St Annes on July 19 at 11.20am.
Quigley told officers he had been asked to remove the flag stones and put down some different ones.
Several of the paving stones were in his van with 25 nearby ready to put in the vehicle.

Hide AdThe woman owner of the property was contacted and she confirmed she had not asked Quigley to do any work for her.
Steven Townley, defending, said after being released from prison in January last year his client had worked for a local builder and done gardening work at the weekend.
