“It was really important to me. I love it there. It’s one of the places I’m most excited about, and I can’t wait to see all the people.

“When they made the list of which venues we might visit, one of the ones I insisted on was Blackpool.”

Sheridan will embark on her first ever tour next week, and will perform in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester and London as well as Blackpool.

“To be out there as myself is very scary.

“The fact that people have been buying tickets to support me is so lovely and I can’t wait to get out there and meet everyone.

“The first half of the show will be songs from the album, and I’ll be onstage with the big orchestra. The second half is more fun, with some classics that the audience can join in with.”

The 36-year-old star added that she would also be singing country tunes as tribute to her parents, Colin and Marilyn Smith, who once performed as a country and Western duo called The Daltons.

She said: “I’m hoping there’ll be lots of different elements to it.

“The album, when it came about, it was something I’d been asked to do before but I wanted to focus on my acting.

“My dad always wanted me to do it so when the opportunity came up again I decided to do it.

“It’s completely different to the acting world and I’m learning as I go along, but it’s nice to do something totally different and get out of your comfort zone.

“Rehearsals are going really well and it’s just very different to rehearsing a show.

“This is just me stood with the band, so it’s mainly costumes and lighting designs we have to focus on.

“I’m loving it and it’s really exciting. I’m chomping at the bit to get out there.”

Sheridan Smith in concert will appear at the Winter Gardens on April 17.
