The dedicated foursome, who all work on Ward 12, gastroenterology at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, are planning to throw themselves out of a plane at 15,000ft – such is their devotion to their work.

Jo Smith, Debbie Senior, Amanda Alonso and Simon Rodda hope to raise £3,000 to help buy much-needed equipment for the ward.

They will take part in the skydive on June 10, with the Black Knights, at Lancaster.

Jo Smith, one of the team, said the event will be particularly challenging for her, as she has a big fear of heights!

She said: “I am absolutely petrified of heights, so jumping out of the plane at that height is going to be a big test.

“I can’t even walk up the steps at the Sandcastle Waterworld without being scared.

“But we wanted to do something that would be a real challenge.

“We hope local people will support us, support their local hospital and help smash our target. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will be used wisely to buy very much-needed equipment for the Gastro ward.”
