The education watchdog’s inspector, Estelle Noblett, praised staff and managers, and said the nursery – which opened in 2003 and has 68 children on roll – could further improve by organising some of its activities better.

In a report, published following a recent visit, Ms Noblett said: “Children play in a warm and welcoming environment.

“They all make good progress from their starting points and are working at expected levels.

“Children are ready, when the time comes, to move on to school.

“Staff respond to the emerging interests of children and provide well thought-out activities and experiences that encourage children to explore.”

Ms Noblett said youngsters are well behaved and respectful, with staff changing their approach depending on their age and development.

And because staff have high expectations, children are encouraged to make their own choices, helping them become more independent, she added.

“To further improve, the provider should improve opportunities for adult-led activities, to help promote children’s learning even further,” Ms Noblett wrote.
