Fylde coast singing favourites Anne and Linda Nolan will be in the mood for moon-walking at the weekend when they don their bras and strut their stuff around London.
The pair, joined by a group of nine family members and friends, will be taking part in the MoonWalk 2014 in memory of their sister, Bernie – under the team name Bernie’s Babes.
The annual event sees women wearing specially decorated and customised bras – usually over the top of other clothing – walk either a half marathon or marathon, starting at midnight, to raise money for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
Walk the Walk works with charities big and small to provide grants, supporting research and helping people living with breast cancer.
Bernie Nolan – who was part of the famous Nolans singing group with her sisters – lost her battle with breast cancer in July last year, and both Linda and Anne have fought the illness.
Anne, who lives in Blackpool, said: “I’ve been going to the gym and trying to build up the walking on the treadmill. I haven’t done quite as much preparation as I wanted to, but I am sure on the night, when we start walking and chatting, we will be okay.
“It’s not a race, we will be taking it at a nice steady pace, I think it will be quite relaxed.
“I am slightly nervous, about whether I will manage to finish it, but we have each other to provide encouragement.
“I am looking forward to it really. It’s a cause so close to all our hearts.
“We wanted to do it in memory of Bernie. And of course, Linda and I have been affected too.
“Linda and my sister-in-law Annie Nolan did the walk last year and asked me if I fancied it this year, I said yes – possibly without thinking about what it entails!
“But I think Bernie would be proud of us for doing it. We have our bras ready to decorate and our special T-shirts.
“We really hope to raise awareness of the charity, as well as raising money.”
