New meeting planned for Fleetwood help project

The plans, to set up a new trust to provide help for those in need, will be looked at during a public meeting at Fleetwood High School on Thursday May 31, at 7pm.

The move has been sparked after it was felt the issues weren’t being fully addressed, backed by last year’s stark statistics for deprivation in the UK, revealing 29 per cent of children in the town were living in poverty, compared to a national average of 19 per cent.

Fleetwood is also among the worst 10 per cent for standards of accommodation.

There are now proposals to create a name for the trust, pursue funding and then set up a centre in the town from which to offer support.

The meeting will be led by Fleetwood clergymen Canon Alf Hayes and Canon John Hall who are working with existing support groups and businesses. Canon John Hall said: “The plans involve setting up a new trust and we are still looking at new premises for a centre. Members of the public are welcome to come along.”

Canon Alf Hayes added “ We are working to identify and deliver what is needed to help support individuals and families regardless of circumstances or whether they have a religious faith or not.”

The meeting will look at how to better support children and families, tackle homelessness and improve rehabilitation services for those leaving hospital.

Plans to buy Fleetwood Hospital for the project remain a possible option.
