Lansdowne Road Park in Ansdell now boasts new play equipment, benches, a picnic area and a path from the park to Ansdell Primary School.

It’s thanks to the hard work of the Friends@thepark volunteers who have spent two years consulting neighbours and speaking with Fylde Council and County Hall officers to create a new design for the park.

They have raised £55,000 to pay for the refurbishment, with contributions from Lancashire Environment Fund, Lancashire County Council, Fylde Council and the former Fylde Local Strategic Partnership.

The park was officially reopened during a fun day by Fylde Mayor, Coun Linda Nulty, on Saturday.

Friends@thepark chairman Tracy Morrison said: “The day went really well, considering the weather.

“We had a good turn out of people coming along to support us.

“We had music from a brass band and from the children of Ansdell Primary School, as well as the usual fair games, a tombola and a raffle.”

Children at the fun day also made clay leaves for a piece of art, which will be fired in a kiln and placed around the park.

The play equipment includes two climbing frames, swings, a seesaw, roundabout, a dolphin “springer” and a donkey “springer”.

The nursery next to the park was also relaunched following a refurbishment.

Mrs Morrison added: “We are all very proud of what we have done.

“When I have spoken to parents of children who have already used the new park, everybody just thinks it’s a massive improvement.

“It is now an exciting and vibrant park.”

Host of fun for Ansdell families

Ansdell families enjoyed a host of activities at Lansdowne Road Park once it was officially opened.

Children were treated to a bouncy castle, donkey rides, gymnastics, a soccer shoot-out, stalls and food, and took part in a name the bear competition.
