New Gazette site set for launch

The Gazette's new website is set to go live today.

The new-look works differently to the old one, making it simpler to navigate and easier on the eye.

All sections are accessible direct from the home page using the drop-down menus at the top and a sitemap along the bottom.

Pictures are bigger and commenting on articles will be more strictly controlled - signalling the end of random and serial deleters.

There will be tighter guidelines on adding and removing comments beneath articles. Any posting reported unsuitable will be checked first by Gazette staff and, if appropriate, then deleted before it disappears off the site.

Stories are divided into four main categories of news, sport, lifestyle and community, each of which leads to relevant sub-sections. Headlines and stories run across three columns.

Some readers might need time getting used to the new site and, initially, finding the content they want; for example, it's worth noting that the long list of news stories will in future be found by clicking on news in the dropdown menu.

And not all sections may be fully populated when we go live.

We'll stay in Beta version for a while while we eradicate the gremlins in the system, so please be patient.

We also welcome your constructive comments and suggestions as to how we may continue to improve our online offering.

Please feel free to take a look around the new site, test the comment facility and let us know what you think.
