Neil's charity efforts inspired by daughter

A Fleetwood man and two pals are organising a 50-mile charity cycle around the Fylde coast and are looking for people to take part.

Neil Hendry, 45, of Penrhos Avenue, is coordinating the event with Darren Overing and Karl Impett in a bid to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The event, called the Fylde 50 4 50, is the first of three planned fund-raising cycle events this year, and is to take place on Sunday June 25.

Neil has already raised an impressive £50,000 for the Trust in recent years, inspired by 11-year-old daughter Izzy, who has the illness and recently won Wyre Council’s Sheraton Trophy.

He said: “We have lots of family and friends who are helping on the day and are kindly giving up their Sunday to help with lots of other jobs.

“We have two sponsors on board. The Giant Blackpool bike shop on Red Bank Road, Bispham have given us lots of cycling goodies for a raffle or to pop into the riders’ goodie bags at the end. The Lunch Box on Ball Street, Poulton, has kindly sponsored all the water for the ride.”

Anyone can take part in the event.

It will start and finish at the Rossall Tavern pub on Larkholme Parade, Fleetwood. The minimum age for the ride is 14 and people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets are compulsory. There is an entry fee of £10 and it is hoped riders will get sponsored or make a donation.
