The 2014 Proms Weekend will run from August 1-3 and Sir Tom’s appearance on the Saturday night continues the tradition of top music stars appearing on Lytham Green.

Past headliners at the festival, which has become Lancashire’s largest live music event, and attracts tens of thousands of spectators every year, include Status Quo, Olly Murs, Alfie Boe, Rita Ora and Boyzone,

The 2014 event will follow a slightly different format, with the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert – which has previously featured singing stars such as Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson – moving to the Sunday evening.

Explaining the change, Mr Taylor said: “We felt it more fitting to have a spectacular firework display on the final evening to make it an extra special finale.”
