Murder suspect in a '˜serious' condition

A murder suspect accused of stabbing a man in the chest in Blackpool was last night still in a serious condition in hospital.

The victim, Joshua Atcherley, was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital following the alleged attack in South Shore on Friday but died a short time later.

A post mortem examination confirmed the 27-year-old died from a single stab wound to the chest.

Police were called to the incident on Station Road at 10.26pm on Friday. Witnesses reported seeing a heavy police presence at the scene which was still cordoned off the following day.

A 24-year-old man from Blackpool who was arrested on suspicion of murder spent the weekend in hospital, where he remained last night.

Police said he has suffered chest injuries and described his condition as “serious but stable”.

Det Insp Mark Dickinson, of Blackpool Police, said: “My thoughts are with Joshua’s family at this incredibly tragic time.

“While we have made an arrest, we are still keen to hear from anyone with any information which could assist with our investigation.”
