And the mural aptly sums up the fishy business of dubious loan firms by featuring a giant shark chasing fish.

The mural scheme is a joint project between the Illegal Money Lending Team (ILMT), Great Places Housing Group tenants and artist Shane Johnstone.

The art project - funded using £5,000 of proceeds of crime money – highlights the dangers of using loan sharks and the help and support available to victims.

It appears on the side of Talbot and Brunswick Sports Barn, on Gorton Street, and includes the IMLT 24-hour helpline number (0300 555 2222) and website (www.stoploansharks.co.uk).

Victims and worried family members can call the team anonymously.

Tony Quigley, head of IMLT, said: “Loan sharks prey on vulnerable communities and we’d urge people to only borrow from ethical lenders like Clevr Money Credit Union.”
