Mum's The Word - October 4, 2016

It’s a pretty simple parenting rule. But one which we broke last weekend.

Let me be clear, it’s not that we let William go on a wrecking spree.

We spent Sunday afternoon at Wyre Estuary Country Park in Stanah, where they had a fabulous wood craft day.

This beautiful green spot is one of our favourite places on the Fylde coast – with a great play park, hills to run up and down, woodland for den making and trails to explore. And it’s even more fun when there are activity days.

So back to the hammer...

A couple were manning a wood craft stall and asked the little chap if he’d like to make a reindeer out of twigs and small logs.

William watched intently as the friendly chap drilled holes in the reindeer’s body.

Then he handed him a huge hammer which weighed almost the same as William’s body weight.

The friendly chap was braver than I’d have been, as he held the piece of wood and let our armed toddler bang the reindeer’s arms and legs securely in.

And after all that he decided it wasn’t a reindeer after all... it was his new pet giraffe! Next we moved onto the elder wood jewellery making stall, where kids pushed the middle out using a tent pole to make hollow pieces of wood.

The friendly ranger said to William: “So now thread these pieces on some string. Which colour would you like? We’ve got red, black or white.”

“Blue!,” he replied.

It’s a good job he wasn’t still armed with the hammer when we told him there wasn’t any blue!
