Mum's The Word - June 7, 2016

William was barely out of his newborn clothes before people started asking the loaded question, '˜are you going to have any more children?'

It’s not like reaching for another chocolate biscuit when you’ve promised yourself you’re only going to have one. Or buying a T-shirt that’s a bargain at half-price.

And it’s not – if you’ve got any morals or respect for your partner – a decision you can make on your own.

We’re at a stalemate at the moment. There’s the ‘lets go for it and who cares if we end up with quadruplets and squeezing into our modest three bedroomed house’ camp (me). Then there’s the more cautious hubby who is in the ‘I might have a nervous breakdown’ camp.

He’s got a point – we feel so blessed with our family, do we need to make it any bigger?

William has two half-sisters who he adores and they dote on him – but the word ‘half’ means they’re not together the whole time. The hubby thinks this gives the little chap the “best of both worlds”... a complete mixture of sibling fun and having mummy and daddy all to himself. And don’t even get him started on the financial strain of expanding the family or another spate of sleepless nights.

But I’d love William to have a sibling to share his life experiences every day of the week.

Friends I’ve made along this first baby journey are now onto their second. And I’ll be honest, it’s making my ovaries hurt.

Especially when it comes to visiting time and William is so gentle and caring around the lovely newborns. Is that a sign he’s got big brother potential?
