MP's objection to plans to build flats on pier site

The plans, put forward by Simmo Developments, would see of 15 apartments for over-55s built on the site, along with a retail unit and car park.

The company’s previous proposals to build a large art-deco style building, in curved glass and steel, at the Fleetwood Pier site were rejected by planners in January.

In a letter on Ms Smith’s website, she wrote: “One could say this looks like it may be a vexatious resubmission, with only minimal changes to the original rejected application.

“The height of the building on this new plan appears to be only three feet lower than the building which was rejected on January 4 for reasons that the ‘height, scale, mass, design and appearance would appear as an obtrusive, alien and incongruous form of development on a prominent promenade location’.

“I do not believe that substantial changes have been made in this resubmission. and furthermore do believe that the resubmission is a complete waste of Wyre council tax payer’s money.”
