Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard (pictured) said: “I cannot understand why anybody would wish to damage this life-saving equipment.

“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and I hope those responsible are made to understand the potential cost of their actions.

“What is heartening, following this incident, is the response of the community in Cleveleys, rallying round to set up a fundraising campaign.

“Hopefully their actions will help not only repair but improve the provision of defibrillator equipment on the seafront. I hope there will be no repeat of this attack but I will now be writing to Wyre Council to ask how CCTV coverage in the area could be improved for the protection not only of this equipment but of nearby homes and businesses.”

Police were called to Rossall Promenade after a resident reported four youths attacking the defibrillator box.

At 4.05am, on Wednesday, the group, three of which had bikes, was seen hammering at the weather proof casing and separate key box with a rock.
