Blackpool MP Gordon Marsden has commented on Britain’s vote to leave the EU.
He said: “On the referendum what I would say is that, especially in Blackpool where people have suffered hugely from austerity, that the results reflect how people feel left behind and cut off by the government.
“What we now need to do is to heal the divisions in what has been a very bruising and very divisive campaign. We need to remember that half of the UK didn’t vote to leave the EU and all of us in Blackpool need to get the best deal for ourselves in the months to come.
“Unfortunately that won’t be easy with the election of a conservative leader which will probably bring about a more right-wing government.
“We will continue to fight for our voices to be heard in these negotiations.”
