A MEMBER of Parliament says more awareness needs to be made on the subject of dementia following a hospital visit.
Fylde MP Mark Menzies praised Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals Trust’s work on dementia during a visit to the resort’s Victoria Hospital.
There is a large population of elderly people on the Fylde coast and Mr Menzies says he aims to see the establishment of services in the field which will be worthy of national recognition.
Mr Menzies said: “This is a subject which is very close to my heart.
“Almost everyone will know someone, be it family members or friends, who have had to cope with dementia directly or indirectly and those numbers are continuing to grow.
“I have seen tragic cases where families are left shattered by poor care and support and I do not want this to happen in Fylde.
“I will be working hard with the Department of Health and the local health services to try to ensure we become national leaders in this vital field.”
“I would like to place on record my thanks to all the team at the hospital for their continuing help and for the work they do for the community, particularly the doctors and nurses.”
