Fylde Euro MP Paul Nuttall has hit out at further claims that European rules could lead to more household devices being banned.

UKIP MEP Mr Nuttall said; “Not content with the ridiculous prohibition on vacuum cleaners over 1,600 watts from Monday, the Brussels bureaucrats have their eyes set on about 30 other electrical items.

“This, like their other stupid ban on incandescent light bulbs, is all to meet their self-imposed target of energy savings of 30 per cent across the EU by 2030 to tackle climate change.”

He added: “It’s like King Canute hopelessly trying to hold back the tide, they should make themselves a nice cup of tea with their high power kettles and leave sensible people to get on with their sensible lives.”
