Money rolls in for victims of Storm Desmond

The Lancashire Flood Recovery Fund Appeal has reached more than £97,000 in just over two weeks to help those affected by Storm Desmond in Lancashire.

And further donations are expected to take the appeal total to nearly £250,000.

The appeal has also received generous donations from other charitable trusts and foundations including Comic Relief, The Rank Foundation and the Westminster Foundation.

Community Foundation chief executive Cathy Elliot said: “The response to the appeal has been phenomenal and shows how many kind-hearted people there are in the county and across the UK.

“We are now in the first stages of processing applications and distributing the funding to local people in real hardship to help them clean up and dry out their homes before Christmas.

“We are very grateful to the everyone who has been involved in reaching the people living in the affected areas including Lancaster and Wyre Councils”
