Charlotte Dawson, 21, daughter of comedy legend Les, hopes to raise £1,000 for the Red Cross’ Philippines Shop Drop appeal after the Typhoon Haiyan disaster in east Asia.

The Ansdell-based actress and model said she wanted to raise money for the charity to honour her father, 20 years after his death in 1993.

She added: “This is a really important charity to me because my dad was a big supporter of theirs and with it being the 20th anniversary of his death, I wanted to do something to help them and make him proud.

“It was hard work going through my clothes and giving them away but to be honest I have got far too many so I was probably overdue a big clear out. Hopefully it will raise a bit of money for a very good cause and I am more than happy to be able to help.”

Charlotte’s mother, Tracy Dawson added: “Last year I had a bad accident and needed a wheelchair – the Red Cross was there to help me out.

“You see its members on television working hard abroad but I don’t think many people fully appreciate the efforts they go to locally too.

“It is great of Charlotte to do this. She has given away many designer dresses as well as plenty of shoes and boots.”

The shop drop appeal gained widespread publicity last month after David and Victoria Beckham gave away clothing and shoes, with thousands of pounds raised at a Red Cross shop in London.

Lancashire and Cumbria community fundraiser Alison Whittaker-Stewart said: “We approached Charlotte to get involved after what the Beckhams so kindly did for us. The clothes will be taken to a sorting centre then dispersed at our shops in Kirkham, Cleveleys, Blackpool and Poulton.”
