A missing parrot has returned to his perch after readers responded to an appeal in The Gazette.

African Grey Merlin was found safe and well in Stanah, near Thornton, after escaping from owners Darren Parker and Sharon Carey of Beryl Avenue, Anchorsholme.

The couple’s daughter Natasha said: “He flew down and landed on the shoulder of the lady who found him.

“We are very lucky and relieved to get him back.

“He is a bit tired and hungry, and we have now padlocked his cage so he cannot escape again. We would like to say thanks to everyone who called us about him.”

The Gazette published an appeal on Monday to help find Merlin who had flown off after learning to unlock his cage.

The pet was bought as a companion for Darren who has been blind for around 10 years.
