It’s been a busy nine months for Blackpool beauty Joanna Johnson, and the 22-year-old is hoping to scoop another crown to keep her just as busy for the next year.
Joanna, who after the third time of competing, won the title of Miss Blackpool in August last year, has been chosen to represent the resort in the finals of the Miss International UK contest in a few week’s time.
The hairdresser, from Norbreck, is planning a series of charity events over the next few months, to raise as much money as possible for the Miss International chosen charity, The Christie – which is based in Manchester and runs services and care for cancer patients.
She has spent the months since being crowned Miss Blackpool doing various public appearances and organising fundraising.
The next event will be a fund-raising fashion show, with Jasmine’s Boutique of Poulton – taking place on July 16, at Frankie’s Lounge, Blackpool in aid of The Christie.
She said: “I’m loving every minute of being Miss Blackpool.
“I love doing all the charity events and the appearances – I’ve been on the local radio, judged the Miss G Casino beauty pageant, presented awards and done fashion shows.
“It’s been great – I don’t want it to end really.
“It’s nice to be able to do things which promote a positive image of Blackpool.
“I am really excited about having the chance to represent Blackpool in the Miss International UK finals.
“I’m looking forward to the competition, I went to watch it last year and really enjoyed it.”
Fund-raising is one of the aspects of taking part in pageants Joanna enjoys the most.
“I’m planning the charity fashion show in July and a sky-dive in September, in aid of The Christie, as well as smaller things like bag packs.
“I’d love to hear from any businesses who might be able to donate raffle prizes for the fashion show. Anyone is welcome to come along, there will be stalls, canapes and a catwalk show.
“The Christie is such a great cause, it helps so many people from across the north west, including Blackpool.
“I love taking part in the pageants, it really boosts your confidence, I enjoy raising money for charity and I’ve made some really good friends through it.”
Joanna is hoping Blackpool residents will get behind her and support her in the Miss International UK contest – you can follow her Facebook page Joanna Johnson, Miss Blackpool International 15/16 and vote for her.
Tickets for the fashion show cost £5.
