A SCHOOLBOY has become the latest actor to join the Fylde coast’s ever-growing cast of soap characters.

Mikey Thomasson who is 11 and a pupil and Baines High School, Poulton, made his debut in Emmerdale on Thursday.

His family and friends held a party at his home on Dodgeons Close, Carleton, as his first episode on TV was screened.

Mikey was picked from hundreds of hopefuls to appear in the role of Dylan Murray who is the son of Debbie Dingle’s new boyfriend Cameron.

Dylan is a typically moody schoolboy who is determined to ensure Debbie’s experience of being a step parent is not a smooth one.

And Mikey has loved the filming so far.

He said: “All the cast from Emmerdale have been really nice so it’s been a good experience. I really hoped I’d get the part so it was brilliant when I got the phone call, I’d love to do more soap acting.” Mikey was called back to the studio in Leeds twice before being offered the role.

The youngster is no stranger to the stage. He joined the Layton based Scream Theatre School three years ago and has never looked back.

This year he was given the main part in Billy Elliot The Musical at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre but due to filming commitments for Emmerdale, he could only be licensed to perform on the Friday and Saturday night.

His proud mum Lindsay, 39, said: “We were very surprised when he was given the part but it did seem a good role for him. “It was surreal seeing him on the TV but he has loved the experience.”
