Media help in capture of drinking fugitive

A man on the run who was caught after police made an appeal through the media has appeared in court.

Charles Simpson was said to have gone to great lengths to evade capture, including not living at his home address and trying to flee and hide in a garden shed when police tracked him down on October 3.

Simpson, 36, of Eastbank Road, St Annes, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol without insurance and not in accordance with a licence.

He also admitted breaching bail by failing to attend at Blackpool police station on August 15.

Simpson was banned from the road for 14 months, fined £240 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £30 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
