‘Mass development’ fears grow in village

A public meeting will be held tomorrow night when villagers are expected to express their concerns after five proposed housing developments – one of which has already been approved – were earmarked for land in Wrea Green in recent months.

Four of the proposed sites, at North View Farm, Moss Side Lane, and two off Bryning Lane, have all been turned down by Fylde Council’s

development management committee but are currently going through the appeal process.

Plans for 55 homes on Richmond Avenue in the village were approved by Fylde Council in January last year.

Tomorrow’s meeting is being held by Ribby with Wrea Parish Council alongside residents’ campaign group the Community Association for the Protection of Wrea Green (CAPOW).

Coun Janet Wardell, who is chairman of the parish council, described the issue as “massive” for the village.

She said: “At the moment in Wrea Green we’ve got something like 600 households that are now in existence.

“With these appeals that’s an additional 158 houses which is massive for a village like ours. It also opens up nearby fields for further

development and it would near enough join us up with Wesham and Kirkham, and also shoot us off towards Moss Side and Warton.”

The purpose of the meeting is to set out the goals of CAPOW and get villagers’ views on the proposed development.

The meeting will take place at 7.30pm tomorrow at Wrea Green Institute, on Station Road. All are welcome to attend.
