He had been arrested after the assault and spent five weeks in custody.

Farmer was sentenced to a 12-month community order with up to 20 days’ rehabilitation to be supervised by the Probation Service, put on nine months’ drink rehabilitation and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Roger Lowe sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Chrissie Hunt, prosecuting, said Farmer’s former partner was asleep on a sofa with her children on December 22 about 2.40am.

Farmer, who had been drinking, barged into the room before going to the kitchen getting the knife and threatening her.
