A MAN stood in the middle of the road to try to prevent police from driving his girlfriend home.

Benjamin Clarke, 23, of Southbank Avenue, Marton, admitted breach of the peace when he appeared before Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said police were called to Clarke’s address at 5.55am on Sunday after reports there had been a disturbance between him and his girlfriend.

Officials decided to take the girlfriend home and Clarke was warned not to contact her until he sobered up.

Clarke then stood in the middle of the road preventing the police van carrying his girlfriend from turning right.

Clarke swore at police and shouted: “I’m going to go round to her house in the next 20 minutes and there’s nothing you can do.”

Clarke was bound over in the sum of £150 for 12 months.
