Man taken to hospital after blaze rips through Kirkham home
A man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire tore through the roof of his Kirkham home, says fire services.
Three fire engines from Wesham, Lytham and St Annes along with an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool were called out to the fire on Vale Royal just before midday on Wednesday, July 11.
The fire, which is believed to have started in the garage of the home, ripped through the garage and the roof of the semi-detached house and started to spread to the property next door.
Watch Manager for Blackpool fire station, Warren Topp said: "An investigation is now ongoing to identify the cause of this fire, but we believe it started accidentally at this stage.
"The roof of the house was completely destroyed as was the garage. The contents of the house were also destroyed by smoke.
"It seems a gentleman was working in his garage when the fire broke out but we don't know exactly how it started.
"The spread to 8 square metres of the neighbour's roof but thankfully we managed to stop it before it spread any further.
"We used three jets, two hose reels and a ventilation unit to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading."
Incident investigators are at the scene of the property today in an attempt to establish a cause.
Crews spent around six hours at the scene.
