Man taken to hospital after being found by rescue teams on Blackpool beach

Rescue teams were called out to the beach opposite Blackpool Tower after reports of a person in the sea last night (July 27).

HM Coastguard and RNLI volunteers were mobilised at 10.40pm after they were alerted to reports of a person in the sea opposite the Tower.

The RNLI began preparing one of its D class lifeboats for launch at its station just a short distance away, when a person was spotted on shore.

The man was found conscious on the steps leading to the beach, near the Comedy Carpet, and was handed into the care of ambulance crews.

A HM Coastguard spokesman said: "Our volunteer Coastguards were called out at 10.41pm this evening (July 27) to a person possibly in the water around the Tower area.

"We quickly arrived on scene and promptly located the casualty on the steps leading to the beach.

We then passed the casualty into the care of North West Ambulance Service and Blackpool Police.

"RNLI Blackpool were also tasked but no launch was required."

North West Ambulance Service said they were unable to comment on the incident.

An NWAS spokesman said: "I can see we were called and attended to this location last night.

"I would advise you contact the police for any further information."

Lancashire Police has been approached for comment.
