A man raised the suspicions of store security staff when he was spotted taking the security tags off joints of meat.
Robert Benson, 41, of Adelaide Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft before magistrates.
He was sentenced to a six-week curfew from 9pm to 6am and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Karen Saffman, prosecuting, said the incident happened on October 9 this year.
Benson was caught stealing £98 worth of beef and coffee from Morrisons, Amy Johnson Way, the court was told.
Trevor Colebourne, defending, told magistrates: “He was penniless at the time and stole to buy food and put electric in the meter.”
