A man in his 50s was rushed to hospital by air ambulance this afternoon after apparently falling off a roof at Thornton.

The North West Air Ambulance was called out at 1.30pm and picked the patient up at King George’s Playing Fields, after he was taken to the site by road ambulance.

It is understood the man was suffering from back injuries.

He arrived at Royal Preston Hospital for treatment at 2.55pm.

A spokeswoman for North West Air Ambulance said: “The man was suffering from suspected back injuries.

“We understand he was hurt after falling off a roof.”

A witness, who saw the air ambulance carry the patient off, said: “We saw a bright yellow ambulance come down in the field behind Marsh Mill.

“We heard that he had been taken there from the Devonshire Avenue area.”
