POLICE today stepped up their hunt for a robber who threatened to shoot a man outside a Blackpool bank.

Wearing a high-visibility yellow jacket, the robber attacked his victim outside the bank on the corner of Whitegate Drive and Hornby Road

A police spokesman said: “A 43-year-old man was coming out of the bank when he was approached by another man.

“The man, who was wearing a high-visibility vest and black bobble hat, demanded money from the victim and said that he would shoot him, before hitting him with something held in his hand.

“The victim managed to defend himself and the man eventually ran off empty handed along Whitegate Drive towards Devonshire Square.”

The incident happened at 11.30am on Friday.#

PC Paul Austin said: “This was a nasty incident and the man was fortunate to be able to fend off his attacker.

“As the offender made his escape, he ran in and out of a line of stationary cars at the traffic lights so I am keen to hear from any motorists who may have seen him running away.

“I would also appeal to anybody who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed this incident to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Blackpool Police on 08451 253545 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
