A BLACKPOOL man admitted he was illegally paid Income Support.

John Bowery, 55, of Tudor Place, South Shore, admitted failing to tell the Department of Work and Pensions about the change in his circumstances.

He was overpaid £15,600 as a result Blackpool Magistrates were told.

Michael Woosnam, prosecuting, said Bowery had moved to Spain.

But he told the DWP that he was living in Wales with his sister.

In fact Bowery was having all his mail re-directed to Spain by the Post Office.

Bowery admitted the offence and his lawyer Robert Castle told the hearing that Bowery was now back in Blackpool.

He said: “My client has been suffering from serious illness. He had cancer of the throat and has had to have his voice box removed.

“He is effectively mute and cannot even speak to this court.”

Bowery was given a three-month curfew order and told to pay £60 court costs.
