Man in hospital after M55 crash

A man is in hospital following a motorway collision involving two cars and a van.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident, between junctions one and three of the M55, where a a Skoda Fabia, a Mercedes 320 Auto and a Mazda Bongo campervan had collided on the westbound carriageway.

The driver of the Skoda, a 48 year old man from Lytham, was initially thought to have suffered minor injuries and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

However, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected internal bleeding.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered bruising, while the driver and two passengers of the campervan where uninjured.

The vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder an hour after the incident and the road was cleared at 7.30pm.

Segt Gareth Hill said: “I would appeal to anybody who witnessed this collision who hasn’t already spoken to us to come forward.”
