Man held after knife raid at newsagent

A KNIFE-wielding raider attacked a town centre newsagents in broad daylight.

The man targeted a newsagents on Grasmere Road, Blackpool, at around 4.20pm yesterday afternoon.

Last night the small shop was closed while police crime scene investigation officers combed the area.

At the scene, officers quizzed potential witnesses while detectives questioned the arrested man at Blackpool’s Bonny Street headquarters.


A police spokesman said: “We believe it was an attempted robbery.

“A man entered the shop in possession of a knife and he was detained within the store when police arrived.”

John Dunderdale, of Finsbury Avenue, South Shore, has been charged with attempted robbery and with possession of an offensive weapon. He has also been charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following a raid at Fylde Pharmacy Ltd on Grasmere Road on February 18.

The 37-year-old will appear before Blackpool magistrates later today.
