A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after being found collapsed in a Blackpool street.

Peter Reid, 56, from Blackpool, was found with a serious head injury in the early hours of Friday morning.

He had left his partner’s home on Waterloo Road, South Shore, at teatime on Thursday and was thought to be heading to a local bookmakers and then to the Royal Oak pub.

But he was found collapsed with a cut to the back of his head on nearby Ball Street at 1.18am.

A passer-by called an ambulance and he was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Royal Preston Hospital.

Initially it was unclear how Mr Reid had sustained his injuries and police feared he may have been attacked.

But detectives say they have now spoken to a number of witnesses and trawled through CCTV images. It is now thought Mr Reid became injured after falling in the street.

Det Insp Becky Smith, from Blackpool CID, said: “We’ve been making inquiries and don’t think anyone else is involved.”
