A MAN accused of having an 18-inch ornamental sword in a St Annes street has made his first appearance at court.

William Anderson, 44, of Whitby Road, St Annes, denied possessing the sword as an offensive weapon in Whitby Road on February 5 this year.

He also pleaded not guilty to possessing cocaine and asked for his case to be heard at crown court.

Anderson was bailed to September 5 for the committal of his case to the higher court by Blackpool magistrates.
