A MAN has been charged with an armed robbery at a Cleveleys jewellers last year.

Timothy Daly, 38, of Coronation Road, Cleveleys, was arrested yesterday and charged with robbery, possession of a firearm and possession of an offensive weapon.

A jeweller at Treasures and Inspirations on East Crescent was allegedly held up at gunpoint on Thursday, December 9 last year.

A man was said to have entered the shop at around noon on a busy shopping day and threatened the jeweller with a gun and a knife.

He then grappled with the staff member before running out of the shop, across the tram tracks and towards Cleveleys town centre.

Police said the raider eventually fled the store - which is also known as Jewels - with cash after a fight with the shopkeeper who tried to detain him and suffered a vicious slash to the ear.

The jeweller was taken to Fleetwood Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the alleged attack.

Daly has been remanded in custody to appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court today.
