Man charged with attempted murder of 97-year-old

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a 97-year-old man.

Stefan Martens, 57, of Blackpool Road North, St Annes, has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning after being quizzed by detectives on Monday.

Police were called early on Sunday, March 30, to reports an elderly man had suffered serious injuries at an address on Blackpool Road North, St Annes.

Paramedics attended at around 8.30am and the man was flown by Air Ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital.

He remains there in a critical but stable condition.

Police have said they are treating it as an isolated incident.
