A man was arrested after causing a fracas at Blackpool’s St Peter’s Church Hall Helping Hands Drop-in Centre.

Anthony Ballance, who was reported to police after making threats to others using the centre, was found to have been breaching his bail.

Ballance, 35, of Clare Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a condition of his bail. Blackpool magistrates agreed to rebail him.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police were asked to go to the church’s drop in centre on November 18 at 4.15pm.

Ballance insisted he talked to a woman at the centre when police arrived.

After being escorted out, police then discovered a condition of Ballance’s bail was he should not contact the woman he had spoken to.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said that Ballance had mental health problems and his medication had either been lost or stolen.

Mr Nelligan added: “He did make a serious attempt on his life last night by slashing his wrists and had to be taken to hospital by the police.”
