Man accused of ramming police car

A man has been accused of causing £16,000 damage when he rammed a police car.

Connor Thomas is alleged to have taken his father’s Motability car which was on a three day test drive and deliberately reversed at speed into a police BMW blocking him in at the rear.

The cost of the damage to the police car is said to be £8,500 and the value of the damage to the Motability Vauxhall Insignia £7,101.

Thomas, 25, of no fixed address, who appeared before the court via the videolink, pleaded not guilty to the aggravating taking of a car without consent on October 30 last year.

He also denied a charge of driving dangerously on Watson Road, Blackpool on the same date.

Thomas is also accused of driving while unit through drugs, having no insurance and driving not in accordance with his licence.

Prosecutor, Martine Connah, asked for the case to be heard at crown court.

Defence lawyer, Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, did not ask for bail for her client.

Thomas was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on April 25 by Blackpool magistrates.
