A man had to be rescued from the sea after getting into difficulties near Blackpool’s North Pier.
Rescuers were called to the scene at around 6.10am on Saturday after reports that a man was stuck in ankle deep water.
But a spokeswoman from Blackpool RNLI said by the time the lifeboat arrived he was in chest-high water and “extremely cold”.
She added: “A rescue team from Lytham Coastguard had been and thrown him a life ring which he was holding on to for support.
“When the lifeboat arrived he was pulled on board and taken to the station where he was treated by paramedics.”
The man was taken to hospital.
The coastguard confirmed it had been contacted by police about a man in the water.
