M55 link work must start by next year – MP

Mark Menzies said it is crucial work starts to build a link road from St Annes to the motorway, and met with LCC’s deputy leader Coun David Borrow to discuss the plans ahead.

Mr Menzies said: “County Coun Borrow was very sympathetic over the plight of motorists in Fylde, and said he would do what he could to ensure the council was working hard to see the road get underway.

“The Government has done its bit by coming forward with the necessary funding to kick start this project, and we need to ensure everyone involved in this development tackles this as a matter of urgency.

“Motorists in Fylde have been very patient while they waited for this new road to be announced, but we now need to make sure that patience is rewarded by ensuring work on the road starts in 2015.”

The building of a newly-constructed highway has become more important in recent months after the closure of Wild Lane, also known as the moss road.

In July, the Government pledged to put forward £2m to build the M55 link, but since Division Lane has also been forced to close for repairs, the surrounding road network has been pushed closer to breaking point, with Clifton Drive North and Queensway the only routes between Blackpool and St Annes.

The issue was highlighted last week when major disruption was caused after an accident on Queensway caused delays in rush hour traffic.
